I hope that all new and current FSU graduate/research assistants support our effort to form a union for grad assistants at FSU. Please see this recent article from the FSView. If you would like to get involved, please contact Katie Hladky at katiehladky@gmail.com

Hello! [Apr. 11th, 2008|10:01 pm]

Hi everyone! I'll be attending FSU's grad program in the fall, for the MS program in applied Geography. Nice to meet you all!

I have a few questions for the community.

1.Yes, the age-old apartment question!
Can anyone recommend a good complex? I've searched around and found a few complexes such as the Boardwalk Apartments at Appleyard, but I didn't know if there was any place in particular that graduate students favored.

2.The age-old roommate question.
I'd rather live with roommates, so is there a discussion board out there to help find apartmentmates? Or better yet, do any of you need/know some one that needs an apartmentmate for the fall? ;)

3.Is there a fencing club on campus?

4.In your opinion, do you find it fairly easy to find a niche at FSU? I'm coming from Virginia, and am worried about things like social activities (if I'll even have one as a grad student, ha ha) What did you all do to find a life outside of class?

5. Is there anyone in the community that is in the geography program? :)

Thanks a lot for the advice, I can't wait to meet everyone in the fall!

Financial Aid (or: "Just Loans" for some of us)... [Jan. 14th, 2008|06:23 pm]

So... disbursement should be when, exactly?
  • Over at Student Financial Services' website (here: http://www.sfs.fsu.edu/) we can see that "Financial Aid Available on SunTrust-FSUCard Account - Spring: January 14, 2008".
Yet... I don't have my money.  Has anyone else received their Spring financial aid disbursement?  Anyone who didn't get the chance to call and ask (read: bitch) and find out why you didn't have yours?  Danke.

Upscale consignment sale allows families to stock up at bargain prices

Tallahassee, FL ? September 4, 2007. The One Week Boutique will hold its bi-annual sale September 14-16 at the historic Marshall House, at 317 East Call St. An upscale consignment sale, buyers can purchase quality items at a fraction of the store cost and pre-registered sellers can clean out closets and make some cash.

Buyers will have three days to shop for items from over 100 consignors, with a half price sale on Sunday. Items available at the sale include: quality, name brand children\'s clothing, maternity clothing, nursery furniture & bedding, toys, baby equipment - swings, bouncy chairs, high chairs, strollers, exersaucers, pack-n-plays, books & DVDs and a \"New with Tags\" section.

The One Week Boutique is the brainchild of entrepreneurs Sara Barber and Cindi Marsiglio who wanted to ?keep down the price of growing up.? Based on similar sales they had been to, they held their first sale in August of 2006 at Goodwood Museum. The pair had a huge success and the event has only grown in popularity since their first venture into the business world.

Following the sale, un-sold items are donated to local charities.

The sale runs September 14-16, 2007 at the Marshall House, located at 317 East Call St. The house is located on Call between Gadsden and Calhoun Streets in Downtown Tallahassee. The hours of the event are Friday 10-5, Saturday 9-4 and Sunday from 10-2. The sale accepts cash, local check with valid driver?s license, mastercard and visa. A 7.5% sales tax does apply and all sales are final.

BIG Acting Auditions in Tallahassee (FSU) [Aug. 31st, 2007|09:26 pm]

Fall 2007 Auditions Announced
The Film School will hold open casting calls for Graduate and Undergraduate
Films on
Sunday, September 9, 2007
Sunday, September 16, 2007
Both days are from 10:00AM - 7:00PM.
No appointment needed. No experience necessary. All ages welcome.
What to expect at the audition:
When you come in, we will take a headshot and get some basic info from you
(name, contact info, experience, interests, etc.). You may also bring a headshot
and/or resume, but it is not necessary. Then you can choose from a selection of
script sides we have available (~2 pages) or you can come with a prepared
monolog (1 minute or less). We will bring you into a room where we will then
videotape you performing the monolog or side you selected (you don't need to
have the side memorized). Depending on how many people show up, the whole
process can take anywhere from a half hour to about 2 hours.
We'll enter your info into our database. When the students are ready to start
casting for their films, they will refer to the database and audition DVDs to find
someone who fits their casting needs. If there is a match, the student will call
you back in to read for a specific part. That's it!
The FSU Film School is located in the University Center, Building A (on the north
side of the Doak Campbell Stadium), off Pensacola Street at Champions Way,
Tallahassee, FL.
For more information please contact Tony Ciarlariello, Production Supervisor, at
850/644-7910 or by email at tony@film.fsu.edu.
